: Hematite was detectedafter heat treatments performed on leaching products that are obtained during gold extraction process; the samples were obtained from the mining factory SODIREC, which is located in Portovelo. Ten samples were taken from lixiviation pools, fine and coarse leaching samples. Heat treatments were performedto the samples with temperatures from 150 to 1000ºC. Qualitative and quantitative analysis were done by X-ray diffraction;the PDF-2 database,Hanawalt and RIR methods were applied. Hematite was found in the samples that were heated over 600ºC, but not in fine leaching samples.
