Resumen

Resumen: Las redes ópticas de nueva generación representan una de las soluciones más prometedoras para satisfacer la altísima demanda de banda ultra ancha exigida por el exponencial incremento del tráfico desde y hacia usuario final. Particularmente las redes WDM-PON ofrecen una de las soluciones de mayor escalabilidad, sobre todo a través del empleo de técnicas de modulación especial o de aprovechamiento del canal (como UDWDM), pero a costa del incremento de la complejidad de la red y por consiguiente, del costo. Este artículo hace un estudio de las principales propuestas para los problemas que limitan la implementación a gran escala de las redes PON de nueva generación haciendo énfasis en el estudio de las principales tendencias y abarcando las redes PON a las que se da mayor enfoque en la investigación actual.

 

Abstract: New generation optical networks present one of the most promising solutions for satisfying the ultra-wide bandwidth demand required by the exponential increase of traffic to and from final users. Particularly, WDM-PON offer one of the most scalable solutions. Even, the WDM-PON capability is further potentiated by the use of advanced modulation formats and spectrum optimization techniques (like UDWDM). However, this increases the complexity and in consequence the cost. The present work makes a review of the main problems related with the limitations for new generation PON great scale deployment. We make emphasis in the main tendencies and most popular PON technologies which are currently under research.
