Resumen
Abstract: The hydraulic performance of a pilot filter in a water treatment plant is studied. This filter has been operatedwith negative pressures releasing air bubbles that clog the filter. Â In order to solve this problem, a modification in thefilter operation is proposed. Two hydraulic structures are evaluated, an orifice and a structure working as a dump.Several hydraulic parameters are evaluated: flow, pressure drop, effluent turbidity and filter run length. The dumpwith height of 10 cm work poorly under the design parameters due to high rates in small run length values. The 230mm orifice works adequately with the design parameters, with a run length of 54 hours, a mean flow of 160 l/s and agradient flow rate of 1,6 l/s. h. Â In addition, water quality is verified with NTE INEN 1108:2014.
