Abstract: This paper shows a simple approach to damping inter-area oscillations usinga Wind Power System Stabilizer (WPSS) for a variable speed wind power converter. Theproposed control is evaluated performing several simulations on the Spanish Peninsular PowerSystem. The simulation represents a three-phase short circuit, and the damping control systemis applied with different gains. The selection of the variable-speed wind power converter’s gainis carried out through modal decomposition and the effectiveness of the proposed approach isdemonstrated for many faults.
