The chemical compositions of samples from Pululahua and Casitahua volcanoes have been used to test a methodology for modeling the possible magma-sources and the formation processes. This methodology requires a major‑oxides mass‑balance between a "mother" and a "daughter" compositions, whose results must be validated through the modeling of trace element behavior. The application of such methodology suggests that the magmas from Pululahua are not formed under any of the simple petrogenetic models, but instead it requires a more complex process including: 1) The partial melting of the subducted oceanic crust with adakitic magma production; 2) Metasomatism of the mantle-wedge by the adakitic magma; 3) Partial melting of the metasomatised mantle-wedge. This process also explains the chemical compositions, as well as the temporal and spatial variations, of the magmas from Mojanda‑FuyaFuya, Cayambe and Reventador.
